Is it okay to relax and get drunk in the mess, despite still being on base?

What do you think? As a professional, where do you draw the line?

Everybody needs to be able to relax. But, even when on base or during official social events, alcohol should only be consumed in moderation. If superiors do not prevent excessive alcohol consumption, their own self-discipline and moral courage can be called into question. Alcohol abuse can lead to discharge from the military.
